New Partnership with Nexus Youth & Family Services

In March 2021, a youth group from Nexus Youth & Family Services learned about services that could benefit youth aging out of the foster system and graduating high school such as:

  • Resume building

  • Dressing for success

  • Interview dos and don'ts

  • Vocational training opportunities

MLJT will be developing paid work experiences for Nexus participants to engage in hands-on skill building, learning work ethics, and starting a career path. This work experience in the Human Services field will further expand knowledge, increase skillsets and add valuable experience to resumes for future employment. We are very excited about this opportunity to partner with Nexus Youth & Family Services and to expand our reach to offer services for more youth in the community!

Office Assistant Work Experience Success Story

In September 2019, Zack W (left) was referred to MLJT Calaveras. He was in need of

employment and assistance with finishing his high school diploma. Our staff immediately noticed his determination to become self sufficient and gain skills that would better his job opportunities.

Zack was helped by a temporary work experience at the MLJT office in Calaveras. While he was nervous at first, he quickly became excited about this new job opportunity. Zack learned a lot of new, valuable skills and rose to the challenges sent his way.

In his position with MLJT, he provided participants and clients with exceptional customer service while also providing support to MLJT staff. Zack complete

d his work experience successfully and has been able to add many new skills and qualifications to his resume. Success is a journey, not a destination. When COVID hit Zack stepped up to the challenge of full-time teacher to his daughter and niece, and in his spare time has continued to work on his diploma. The diploma is soon to be achieved, and with in-person learning resuming in his school district, Zack will be a strong candidate for new job opportunities. We are very excited and proud about how far he has come and appreciate all of his hard work and dedication to MLJT.
