Grant Helps Those Affected by COVID-19 Layoffs

Mother Lode Job Training had the opportunity to serve families in the Mother Lode region through our COVID-19 Support Service Grant in a unique way.

Our 4-county offices of dedicated staff were able to assist individuals and households with rental assistance, utility assistance (including telephone, propane, electric, water, sewer, garbage), auto insurance, DMV registration and a few more recurring payments.

There are some individuals that were impacted by COVID-19 layoffs and business closures, who were eligible to receive training services through other grants, helping them gain new skills to become re-employed, earning a self-sustaining wage.

Some of the trainings include:

  • Welding

  • HVAC

  • Medical Assisting

  • Dental Assisting

  • Truck Driving

  • Project Management

  • Drug & Alcohol Abuse Certification

Local resident Gino has worked with Mother Lode Job Training for about two years. Gino first came to us when his business lost a major contract and was forced to close. Our staff got Gino back up and running with a steady position in the State Parks system. When COVID-19 started affecting his hours and an additional part-time job became necessary, Gino said he knew just where to go. Not only did Mother Lode Job Training staff help Gino find the perfect part-time position to work around his existing schedule, we were able to help him get a few bills cleared up along the way.

We are happy to be able to help our community rise above the setbacks that came from this pandemic. We encourage adults and youth (16-24) that are interested in exploring career, training and employment opportunities to contact us to determine your eligibility for our many programs and services.

Trucking On! Client Success Story

Mother Lode Job Training (MLJT) would like to highlight a recent success story with a client through our Mariposa office.

Joey (below) was homeless and self-employed doing tree service work and other side jobs. His work was “hit and miss” and it was difficult to obtain work that would allow him to financially support himself. He did not have a steady income and was struggling. He looked for work for several months and was not able to find a full-time job. He decided it was time to find a job that would provide him with a stable income and a better lifestyle.

Mother Lode Job Training met with Joey and talked about what his current situation was and what he would like to do for work. He wanted to become a Truck Driver as they are always in demand. MLJT sent him to a Truck Driver training of his choice. Joey graduated on 10/20/20. MLJT also encouraged him to talk to local driving companies prior to completion of his training program.

Joey started working full-time as a Truck Driver on 10/26/20 for BeZak Liquid Transport in Mariposa, CA. He loves his job and he is looking forward to building a career in the Truck Driving industry. He is now in transitional housing and will be moving into his own home soon. He has also proposed to his girlfriend and they will be married in 2021.
